What is a VPN and do you need one?

Do I need a VPN? This question brought about the technology age question that left many users stumped as to what a VPN is and what it protects you against. This blog will offer an answer to these questions, as well as provide some recommendations, information and uses of a VPN.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. This means that you can make your IP address unknown to those who may be prying. A VPN is a very useful tool, as you could be in Australia, but set your IP to for example America or any other location and no one will know where you truly live. A VPN is used by many to hide their location (IP address) from those people who could be spying on your search history and also steal your information. Some VPN's  how ever do not offer total Annymity (this means that you are not completely anonymous). Just look out for that because it may mean that the VPN provider is holding onto your data.

A VPN is also used by many as a way to access media from all around the globe. For example you may have a streaming account and want to watch something on an overseas streaming service. You can now because of VPN. All you need to do is set your location to an overseas city or state and your off. However in the recent years, streaming services have tightened up on this, by recognizing a VPN, so you may have to try a few times.

A recent article on the NordVPN site is that Facebook is selling your information to your phone developers. This may not sound bad, but this does mean that your phone developers know a lot about you, such as your school/job or your hobbies, where you go etc. This may be okay with some people, but with others this is a no no, and scares them as they could have sensitive information on the app. If you just think that this is a Facebook app matter than think not, as it does not affect the website, it does affect the instant messenger service. This means that the phone developers know everything you message and who those messengers are going to.

Some VPN services that we recommend are, VyprVPN, NordVPN, PureVPN, TunnelBear VPN and CyberGhost VPN. These are just some of the great VPN services out there.

A special thanks to all of the VPN services out there that protect our information and keep our browsing time our own.
